Almost Done

The semester is almost done and I could not be happier.  This has been by far my most stressful semester I have had with all the papers and projects I have had to do.  With this class and my all my other classes  I am pretty sure that I will have typed more papers this semester than I did all throughout high school.  On a positive note, I now know what I do not want to do after college.

Paper #3

For Paper #3 I am going to be writing about Serial killers and how they relate to Jekell and Hyde.  I just think it is interesting that this book describes most serial killers perfectly.  One day they will be fine, the next day they could just snap and do something drastic.  I also find it interesting that most serial killers seem to be role model citizens.  The BTK killer, who killed ten people, was a church deacon at a Lutheran church.  If thats not considered a role model citizen I don't know what is.

Different Personalities

After reading the book Dr Jekel and Mr. Hyde, I cant help but wonder if there is a single person out there that does not have multiple personalities.  Its funny how we will act differently around different groups of people.  Around one set of people we may act quiet and polite, while with other groups of people we may act wild and cocky.  Sometimes some people are so good at changing personalities that you cant even tell what is there "true" personality.  Then I come to wonder if we really have a "true" personality.  Are the personalities that we have around some people fake, or are they still genuine?

re-reading or watching something

Its interesting how things seem so much different when you do read or watch it for a second time.  Some TV shows that I watched when I were younger are just completely stupid.  Some of it seems poorly written and too ordinary.  I almost wonder why I even watched the shows in the first place.  On the flip side, sometimes with age things seem to get better.  Some books seem to make sense, and are funny that did not seems so when I read the book at a younger age.  This would probably be because I get the jokes and storyline better with age.

Creative Writing

For my project, I am going to talk about strategies of famous military leaders.  I will analyze how they were successful by seeing how they handled their armies and their people.  I will also analyze their flaws and why some of them may have fallen.  I dont know yet if I am going to write about just one or a few of them.  For my Literary analysis I am writing about Victor.

Frankenstein

This would be the second time I have read Frankenstein and I would have to say it is not one of my favorite books to say the least.  For one, I don't understand why Victor had to make the creature so hideous and strong. Wouldn't he realize that it would not be a good idea to do this?  Also, I don't know why Victor would not make a companion for the monster, didn't he know that the monster would kill more of his friends and family if he didn't?  I think the consequences of making another monster would not have been as bad as Victor thought they would be.

Paper

I am writing my paper relating to World War Two and the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.  This relates directly to chapter 17 of The Prince.  The dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki may have been cruel, but in the long run it saved many American and Japanese lives.  Truman brought peace to the United States through fear of another attack.  This follows the idea that it is better to be feared than to be loved.

And The Band Played On

The movie and the Band Played on Was a very interesting movie.  It shows how people in the government reacted to one of the most deadly viruses, AIDS.  I think it is very interesting how the government will not release information about a virus that big until it is already too late.  It is disturbing how long they waited before telling the general public about AIDS.  Almost makes you feel that their job is more important than the life of a human being.  I wonder what other things the government has done this with.  Maybe half of our wars didnt start for the reasons we think they did.

Freedom of Speech

Over the last few weeks I have really pondered about the whole idea of freedom of speech.  Then I looked at the United States government and asked myself several questions.  Do we, people of the United States, have enough freedom of speech?  Do we have too much freedom of speech?  Should there be limits to what is published (books, movies, art) and what isn't?  Should certain sites, such as wiki leaks, be taken off the internet because some of the documents posted tell us too much about what the government is doing?
Then I asked myself, do I really want to know everything that is going on?  My answer would be no.  We do not need to know everything that is going on abroad, every detail at a serious crime scene or know in great detail what the government is doing behind closed doors.  Censorship is not always a bad thing.  It protects people from worrying and complaining about things that they don't really have a say in and do not need to worry about.  In reality, how would knowing about some of the events going on really effect our lives?  Is there really any good in knowing?

Capital Punishment

For quite some time, there has been much debate about whether capital punishment is ethical or not.  Some people claim that it is immoral to take the life of another people, where other people believe that if the crime is bad enough they deserve to die.
Even though most people think that the death penalty is cheaper than life in prison, it is just the opposite.  The main reason for this is the appeals system.  In fact, when you add up all the court costs and cost of living for the person on death row it ends up being almost ten times as expensive as keeping them in prision.  I dont really care if capital punishment is better if it is ten times as expensive.  We can not afford to spend more money than we have to with the economy that we have today.  That extra money can go toward jobs and other things that are more meaningful.
